This $2,500 award was created to encourage students to think critically about financial strategies, such as budgeting, investing, and saving, and to explain how they will use those tools in their own lives.
This year’s scholarship winner is Kayla Wilson, a first-year student at Georgia College & State University, who is studying nursing. Our scholarship committee was impressed by her dedication to nursing, her focus on education, and the inspiration she draws from her mother’s support.
How the Scholarship Will Help Kayla Wilson Build a Solid Financial Future
For Kayla, this scholarship is more than just financial support—it is an opportunity to continue her education with greater peace of mind. She shares that the award will help ease the costs of her studies at the School of Nursing while also teaching her valuable lessons about managing her finances.
Kayla believes that building wealth begins with education, and she is already thinking about how to make smart choices with money. She wants to focus on learning how to budget wisely, planning ahead for student loan payments, and building healthy credit from the start.
She also hopes to grow her savings and build lasting wealth by taking finance courses that teach her about investing. By pairing these financial lessons with her dedication to nursing, Kayla is preparing not only for a successful career but also for long-term stability.
What Inspired Her to Apply for the Award
Kayla’s journey to this scholarship began with encouragement from her mother, who first told her about the opportunity. Seeing it as the perfect fit, she submitted her application and created a video entry that highlighted her goals and values.
When asked about her biggest role model, she didn’t hesitate: her mother. “She is the strongest and bravest person I know. I look up to her in so many ways, and she’s my best friend,” Kayla says.
That encouragement continues to guide her as she begins her journey in nursing.
Laying the Foundation for a Nursing Career
Kayla, from Ball Ground, Georgia, is pursuing a degree in nursing at Georgia College & State University and plans to graduate in 2029. These early core classes are preparing her for the rigorous coursework ahead, and she is already focused on where her nursing career may take her.
“My ultimate career goal is to become a nurse and continue my education in nurse anesthesia,” she shares. Kaya wants to focus on pediatric nursing and work with children. Whether in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), or as a nurse anesthetist, she aims to care for the most vulnerable patients with skill and compassion.
Service, Sisterhood, and Student Life
In addition to her studies, Kayla makes time to give back to her community. In high school, she dedicated four years to sports medicine, building a foundation in healthcare and teamwork.
Now in college, she is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, where she participates in volunteer opportunities that support her community and academic success. She is also active in campus outreach and Young Life, organizations that give her opportunities to grow personally while serving others.
A Promising Future in Nursing
The scholarship opportunity also represents more than financial aid—it’s a stepping stone on the path toward a meaningful career in healthcare. With Kayla’s dedication, compassion, and inspiration from her mother, we know she will continue to achieve great things both in and out of the classroom.
